Senators Wyden and Burr introduced Senate Bill 748, the Veterans Pension Protection Act, on April 17, 2013.  See a copy of the bill here. This bill is in response to a Government Accountability Office Report from May 2012, which outlined several suggestions to help strength the Veterans Affairs (VA) Pension Program.  Instead of utilizing all or even most of the suggestions in the 2012 report, Senate Bill 748 focuses solely on establishing a three-year look back period for the VA Aid and Attendance Pension program and creating a penalty period for assets transferred in this time frame.  The passage of Senate Bill 748 would greatly impact Veterans and Veterans’ spouses eligibility for VA Aid and Attendance.  The bill was referred to the Committee of Veterans’ Affairs and the committee held a hearing on the bill on May 15, 2013.  We will keep you updated as Senate Bill 748 progresses through the Committee of Veterans’ Affairs.  If you have any questions regarding VA Aid and Attendance please contact Beckman Weil Shepardson at 513-621-2100.
